You may wish to do the walk with or without the audio tours available through our MP3 players. You may also consider having a guide accompany you on the journey.
Pre-booking is essential for large numbers.
GUIDED TOURS
A guided tour with an experienced guide can really enhance your Understory experience. Guides are available by pre-booking for groups of ten or more.

Guides can cater tours to specific interests eg. local wildflowers, a focus on sculpture or to the needs of individual groups - eg art students, small children.
WORKSHOPS
Tailor-made sessions for groups
A number of professional artists, living locally, are able to deliver quality art workshops to compliment your Understory visit. Numerous school and art groups have previously enjoyed this opportunity to value-add the experience.
Workshops can be delivered on-site along the trail or based within the Painted Tree Gallery. They can also be combined with visits to the artists own studios.
Session lengths vary, according to the needs of individual groups.
Workshop themes can be focused upon di erent areas of interest, for example:
- Drawing from nature - guidance on drawing from life, outdoors;
- Imagine you've been commissioned to create an artwork, where would you place your sculpture and what would it look like?
- Creating ephemeral sculptures using found natural materials;
Participating artists include:
Tony Windberg
Specialising in works drawn from life, Tony is an award winning painter (including the City of Perth Art Award in 1999 and 2001 and the Bunbury Biennale in 2007). Tony runs the Pemberton and Northcliffe TAFE art classes. He has a Bachelor of Arts degree from Curtin University (1986).

Peter Hill
A painter and sculptor, with two works featured along the Understory trail, Hill exhibits nationally and is represented in numerous important art collections including the Art Gallery of WA, Artbank and the Kerry Stokes Collection. Peter has a Diploma of Arts from Claremont School of Art (1993).

Workshops for individuals
Southern Forest Arts is committed to providing local and regional residents, as well as visitors to the area, the opportunity to engage more deeply in the arts. Skill development workshops are organised several times per year in various creative media.

Lake Grace artist, Tania Spencer spent two weeks as artist in residence whilst completing a new sculpture for Understory. During this time she instructed nearly a hundred people in the unusual art of knitting with wire. Supported by the Regional Arts Fund.
